Rooming-In
A new mother can choose to keep her baby in the room with her. The rooming-in program greatly increases maternal-infant bonding and gives the mother a chance to care for her baby while nursing professionals are nearby to give guidance and answer questions.
Skin-to-Skin
We encourage all moms to hold their infants skin-to-skin after delivery. The minutes and hours just after birth are special for you and your baby, and research has shown clear benefits for both. After delivery, our nursing team encourages and assists you to hold your baby skin-to-skin.
One-on-One Newborn Education
While new mothers are at the hospital, our nursery nurses visit one-on-one to discuss newborn care. The nurses provide educational materials and live demonstrations to help you feel as confident and relaxed as possible about caring for your baby at home.
Our hospital staffs more than 40 registered nurses in the nursery, labor and delivery, and postpartum units who are trained as breastfeeding educators, supported by one certified lactation counselor and two International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).
Our lactation program is available three to five days a week for breastfeeding families.
If you have questions or run into challenges with breastfeeding once you go home, call our nursery line.
Once you get home, new parents can use the following resources any time:
- Cradle Call: 662-615-2942 — a 24-hour line answered by nursery nurses for any newborn questions
- Nursery: 662-615-2940 — for breastfeeding support and newborn questions
Little ones do not come with instructions, and they often pick the strangest moments to surprise their parents. We encourage families to call any time — that is what these lines are for.
Visiting hours: Every day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Labor and delivery / postpartum: Patients may have two visitors at a time. Visitors may switch out as desired.
- Newborn follow-up appointments: One parent or guardian plus one other designated adult is permitted with the newborn.
