Healing Starts Here
There is hope for people living with chronic wounds. The wound care and hyperbaric center at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County, formerly the OCH Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, brings experienced wound care specialists and advanced healing technology to families across Starkville, Mississippi, and the Golden Triangle region.
Our center has been recognized as a Center of Distinction by Healogics — the nation's largest wound care management network — and is part of the Healogics network of nearly 800 facilities. That connection means our team works with bench-marking data and proven protocols for treating chronic wounds.
A chronic, non-healing wound often points to an underlying condition. Our wound care clinic can help if you have:
- A wound that has not begun to heal within four weeks
- A wound that has not fully closed in six weeks
- A wound that keeps coming back, even after standard treatment
If any of these apply to you or a loved one, talk with your primary care provider about a referral to our wound care center.
Our wound care specialists treat a wide range of chronic and complex wounds, including:
- Diabetic ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, pressure ulcers and ischemic ulcers
- Venous insufficiency wounds
- Traumatic and surgical wounds that are not healing
- Vasculitis
- Burns
- Peristomal skin irritations around ostomy sites
- Other chronic, non-healing wounds
Wound care management at our center combines clinical assessment, advanced wound dressings, infected wound treatment when needed, and — for the right patients — hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivers 100% oxygen to patients inside a pressurized hyperbaric chamber. The high-oxygen environment helps wounds heal faster, fights certain infections and supports tissue recovery in ways standard treatment cannot.
- Approved Indications for HBOT at Our Center
- Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is reserved for specific medical conditions. Patients can be evaluated for HBOT if they have:
- Diabetic ulcers of the lower extremities
- Soft-tissue radionecrosis and osteoradionecrosis (radiation injury to soft tissue or bone)
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis (deep bone infection that has not responded to standard care)
- Compromised skin grafts and flaps
- Actinomycosis
- Crush injury
- Acute traumatic peripheral ischemia
- Progressive necrotizing infection or fasciitis
- Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
- Acute carbon monoxide intoxication
- Cyanide poisoning
- Decompression illness
- Gas embolism
- Gas gangrene
Your wound care provider will discuss whether hyperbaric chamber therapy is right for your case.
