Surgical Care for Every Stage of Life
The surgical services department at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County brings advanced surgical care to families in Starkville, Mississippi, and the surrounding Golden Triangle region. From outpatient procedures to complex robotic surgeries, our team performs about 250 cases each month — covering everything from joint replacements and hernia repairs to cataract surgery and prostate procedures.
Whether your surgery is routine or complex, our team helps you prepare, supports you during your stay and walks you through recovery.
Our surgical services unit features seven advanced operating suites equipped with high-definition video and the technology needed for traditional, minimally invasive and robotic procedures.
Anesthesia Team
Anesthesia care is delivered by three board-certified anesthesiologists and six certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). Together, they tailor anesthesia for each patient and procedure, from short outpatient cases to complex inpatient surgeries.
Surgical Volume
We perform about 250 surgical cases each month across nine specialty areas — a high case volume that reflects both the breadth of care available locally and the trust families place in our team.
Our team uses the daVinci Xi robotic surgical system for select gynecologic, urologic and general surgery procedures. Robotic surgery uses small incisions and a precise instrument array controlled by the surgeon, which can mean less pain, less blood loss and a faster return to daily activities for many patients.
Common robotic procedures performed at Baptist Oktibbeha County include:
- Robotic hysterectomy
- Robotic nephrectomy (kidney removal)
- Robotic prostatectomy (prostate removal)
- Robotic general surgery procedures
Not every surgery is right for a robotic approach. Your surgeon explains which technique fits your case and why.
Our surgical services department supports a wide range of procedures across nine specialty areas. Some are inpatient procedures; many are same-day outpatient cases. Your surgeon and care team will guide you to the right setting based on your procedure.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County offers hip arthroscopy — a minimally invasive procedure for diagnosing and treating problems inside the hip joint — so patients can have this specialized care close to home.
Hip arthroscopy is used to treat conditions like labral tears, hip impingement (FAI), loose bodies in the joint and certain forms of early hip arthritis.
Before Surgery
Your surgeon's office schedules your procedure and gives you a check-in time. Most patients pre-admit at least 48 hours in advance through our outpatient services department, where the team completes any labs, imaging or pre-operative assessments your surgeon ordered.
Day of Surgery
You check in at the outpatient admissions desk. Your care team welcomes you, reviews your records, places an IV and prepares you for the operating room. After surgery, you go to a recovery area where nurses monitor you closely until you are ready for the next step.
After Surgery
Outpatient procedures often let you go home the same day with a responsible adult driver. Inpatient procedures involve a hospital stay, and your length of stay depends on the surgery and your recovery. Before you leave the hospital, you receive home care instructions, follow-up appointment details and the contact information for any questions that come up.
You can message your surgical team through Baptist OneCare MyChart between visits.
